The “Tiger King” love it/hate debate rages. I urge you to listen to this podcast. “Still Processing” is always an incisive treat. Here is the link. The analysis of the program from a racial perspective is fascinating and pretty much on target. Don’t be put off by a lot of the early sound clips. About 10 or 15 minutes into it they begin to analyze this as a white “porn” phenomena. If you (like me) were gripped by the series it explains why we were (as if we didn’t already know), but it also adds a much deeper analysis into the racial undercurrent. For those friends who were repelled by the series, you will find justification of your perspective but also a much deeper analysis of its cultural context. The url is from the NYT’s, but the podcast’s title is “Frosted Flakes” and it can be found under “Still Processing” podcast. Definitely worth a listen.
