Thank you New Yorker for recommending this wonderful bio-pic of Petey Greene , radio dj, talk show host and community activist. Don Cheadle is very convincing as Greene, a charismatic and complex ex-con who became a prominent Washington D.C disc jockey and talk show host in the late 60’s. Although it is not billed as such, it is also about Dewey Hughes. Chiwetel Umeadi plays Hughes (another fascinating character) Greene’s manager and talk show producer. The movie is pretty true to real events (as far as I can glean from Wikipedia accounts) but it is also a moving story of the relationship between the two men. The music is great too. And kudos to the costume designer. You will love the outfits worn by the beautiful (and talented) Taraji Penda Henson.
