“My Octopus Teacher” (Netflix)

Several people told me about this fascinating and unusual documentary. Briefly: a South African filmmaker in an attempt to work through a personal crisis explores False Bay–a body of water off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa where he lives with his family. These deep sea explorations lead to a relationship with an octopus. It sounds kind of weird and hokey, but I assure you–it is neither of those. The film is a gorgeous visual diary and an astounding multi-leveled story.
